The aquarium operates as a nonprofit and aims to educate and entertain visitors while inspiring wonder and stewardship toward the natural world. In addition to its various marine life exhibits, it features the Journey to Madagascar animal habitat. An immersive experience developed with sponsorship from the Yob Family Foundation, it is populated by animals such as lemurs, geckos, and hissing cockroaches. Other activities include a 4D theater and the Splash Pad outdoor kids’ water play zone. Additionally, guests can purchase the Penguin Backstage Pass to learn about African penguins up close and buy tickets for the Wild Dolphin Cruise.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Florida Aquarium is also hosting the Washed Ashore - Art to Save the Seas art exhibit until February 2021. The collection consists of large, richly-colorful sculptures created by an Oregon-based artist and a team of volunteers from plastic debris recovered from coastlines. The project was designed to combine art and conservation to highlight the detrimental effects of plastics dumped into oceans and waterways.
