In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tampa General Hospital is one of a select number of medical institutions that has worked to deploy a next generation artificial intelligence and analytics-informed digital infrastructure solution. This “command center” approach took NASA’s mission control as inspiration and delivered real-time data spanning patient care and hospital services, across the duration of patient stays. The result has been a significant reduction in average patient stay lengths, as well as 30 beds of added capacity and $40 million cost savings.

Tampa General Hospital received an additional boost in October, 2020, when a local philanthropist and his wife announced a $2.65 million contribution for treating patients with infectious diseases such as the coronavirus. The funds are helping develop a dedicated COVID-19 unit that is set up for the long-term diagnoses and treatment of patients. Among its planned features are ventilators and negative pressure isolation rooms.
